FAQ

Our site isn't really hard to use. In fact, we've made it SUPER simple for you to start getting your mixes out there. However, at times, some users still have difficulties understanding a new layout, or a different web site (think back to when you started using soundcloud or justin.tv, etc. You got the hang of it eventually!)

We have two types of audio content: Mixes and Audio Files. Our Mixes are totally free for you to upload, as much and as many as you want! You can also embed mixes from Soundcloud (more coming) saving us a bit of bandwidth, and allowing us to feature your mix on our site that gets over 15,000 hits per day! Audio files are a different beast, a bit more complex and less sexy than mix uploads. They're a bit more feature-rich, and therefore cost us a bit more cash to host. Therefore, we only let a few DJ's send us mixes (via ftp account) and / or upload their audio files. Audio files can be mixes, or they can be productions. We don't charge for anything hosted on this site, but we have to limit our high-bandwidth content to our trusted sponsors and friends at this time.

How do you upload a mix? EASY!

1. Create an account, login.
2. Click Upload Mix in the Navbar
3. Choose your audio file and start the upload (maximum 512mb per file, no limit on files) DO THIS FIRST!
4. While your file is uploading, you can fill in the Title, and Description/Tracklisting (or stare at our awesome progress bar)
5. Once the upload is finished and you see your file listed in the page, you can click SAVE at the bottom.
6. That's it! You can visit your content and Stream / Download the audio from us, and share your audio link with all your listeners!

Some notes:

If you need to upload large files bigger than 512MB, please email rod@locl.ca and we'll sort something out

DO NOT CLICK SAVE UNTIL YOUR AUDIO FILE IS UPLOADED

Please, if you can, include a tracklisting. It increases your visibility and will get you promoted to the front page. (Anyone who doesn't include a description or tracklisting will not be included on the djmix.ca front page, however your file will still be able for download, and you will show up in the RSS feed, and archive.)

Be sure and save your content URL. If you lose it, use the search function.

Why is my mix not showing up on the front page?

Our site hosts a TON of mixes, and we get hundreds of uploads every day. If we posted every single mix to our front page, it would change every 10 seconds! Also, we like to feature artists on our front page that generate traffic for our site. Not to say that your mix isn't going to get downloads, or that your mix isn't good enough. We do reserve the right to pick and choose what shows up, it's just a small reservation we've always made, to ensure a quality product on our main page.

If you think your mix is worthy of the front page, do three things: Make sure you have a track listing, also ensure your file is 192kbps MP3 format, and finally, send an email to rod@locl.ca with your content URL and ask to get on the front page. If we like the mix, and it meets the criteria, we'll feature you!

Radio Broadcasting

We have 2 streams here at djmix.ca, one is for our streaming radio station, and the other is a pick-up stream for dj's to broadcast one-off's and spontaneous shows that don't appear on the schedule. Right now our pick-up stream is offline for maintenance.

We use Icecast2 (mp3) for our broadcasting standard. If you are familiar with Icecast/Shoutcast then you can start broadcasting right away!

The software we recommend for sending us a stream:

Winamp + Shoutcast DSP (least favorable)

We will put some tutorials up for all the software clients, once we get finished repairing the one-off stream.
